Clinical Training

For GPs and Surgeons Seeking to Expand their Repertoire

We actively support the delivery of local anaesthetic surgical procedures in the community by fully-accredited General Practitioners with a Special Interest in the relevant field. If you are a GP or surgeon interested in receiving training and/or accreditation in No-Scalpel Vasectomy or Carpal Tunnel Decompression please contact us.

Dr Speers, an accredited GP trainer, provides training in No-Scalpel Vasectomy. Dr Yen Lam also works with our Orthopaedic Consultant Mentor Mr Mike Taylor to train GPs in Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

Establishing a successful Vasectomy or Carpal Tunnel Service requires significant managerial time and experience. Therefore we also provide consultancy on the financial, contractual, legal and administrative aspects.

  • No-Scalpel Vasectomy Training
  • Carpal Tunnel Decompression Training
  • Consultancy on the Financial, Contractual, Legal and Administrative aspects.
  • Training Available Nationwide.

No-Scalpel Vasectomy

The WHO recommends that No-Scalpel Vasectomy should supersede traditional vasectomy because the complication rate is much lower and the method is just as effective at achieving and maintaining sterility.

Training

Training – Provided by Dr Alan Speers.

Experienced Traditional Vasectomists  – can learn the technique in a single day of one-to-one hands-on tuition though some prefer to have two or more sessions.

Clinicians with plenty of surgical experience but who are new to vasectomy – usually need 2-3 sessions but may like to have more in order to build up confidence.

Accreditation

The FSRH training syllabus and log book is 55 pages long and deals with many competencies other than the ability to counsel a patient and safely perform his vasectomy.

Tollgate Clinic can assist with this when required.

Carpal Tunnel Decompression

Training is also available for Carpal Tunnel Decompression.

Training

Training provided by  Mr Mike Taylor and Dr Yen Lam.

Pre-Operative Assessment  – To ensure accuracy of diagnosis and provision of effective non-surgical management. Usually attendance at three assessment clinic sessions is required.

Surgical Technique – Mastering the surgical technique of Carpal Tunnel Decompression depends on prior experience etc but usually needs 3 or more sessions.

Accreditation

Accreditation is provided by Consultant Orthopaedic hand surgeon Mr Mike Taylor.
